Jesus as a Revolutionary

Many of us love to label Jesus as a revolutionary myself included, for a long time in my own spiritual development I put the idea of a revolutionary Jesus at the forefront of my faith and I often still do but now with a deeper understanding of who He is, and like the rest of us he has a multi-faceted personality and that Christ revolutionary side is not all there is to Him.Where does the idea of Jesus as a revolutionary come from?
It comes from sections of His teachings and life that seem to counter the nature of humanity. His commands and compassion to help the marginalized even more embraces the idea of Jesus as a revolutionary. Some of the most prominent things Christ did as a revolutionary were simple and subversive but with a kind nature, He wasn't causing riots or screaming in the streets, He was embracing individuals where they were with love and grace. We see it when he speaks to the woman at the well in John 4:7-19 now this woman was not only an adulteress, but a Samaritan as well, Jews generally would not have spoken to Samaritans. Jesus had just broken several Jewish cultural norms, talking to a Samaritan and a Samaritan woman at that, who was an adulteress. Yet he was willing to meet her where she was at with love and grace. Another great example is found in Luke 5:12-13 Jesus is approached by another of societies rejects a leper. Here is a man dying by the inch, forced to live as a social outcast for the fear of spreading leprosy to another. He was seen as unclean and untouchable yet Jesus reached out and touched him. This again was a revolutionary statement to the cultural onlookers He was willing to be seen as unclean for the sake of one man. All of these things scream revolutionary Jesus and I firmly believe He is a revolutionary but if this is the only Jesus we see than while we see an awesome part of Him we are still missing out on a much greater Jesus. My hope for you this week is you will begin to look beyond what ever label you have placed on Jesus and explore some of the different facets of Christ's nature
